Who needs a fire safety plan in Burnaby
Burnaby Fire Department applies the BC Fire Code through the City's Fire Services Bylaw 11860. Every building with a fire alarm system, every assembly or care occupancy, every high building, and every sprinklered building needs a plan, and the bylaw gives an owner 60 days from occupancy, renovation, or a fire department order to submit one.
How Burnaby Fire Department reviews a plan
Burnaby's process is one of the most defined in the region. Plans go by email to the department's fire safety plan inbox as four separate PDFs: the plan, the drawings, the fire department information section, and the appointment forms. Drawings must use the Burnaby symbol set. The review fee is $171.15 for buildings up to six storeys and $342.30 for seven storeys and up, and revisions within ten years by the same company are free. The plan box must be the approved type with a padlock and a spare lock, labelled for the fire department.
